A righteous spirit that soars aloft; an upright character that inspires awe
The famed historical figure General Kwan Yu, also known as Kwan Kung, is the revered guardian of Tai Kwun as well as a major symbol of loyalty and righteousness in our city, worshipped by all walks of life and profession. “Salute to Kwan Kung” is an exhibition about Kwan Kung. Charting the changing influence of this deity from the Three Kingdoms period to contemporary Hong Kong, the show explores how Kwan Kung’s symbolism is deeply embedded in our daily lives, our communities and our disciplinary forces.
The Design and Cultural Studies Workshop (CnC) is appointed as Programme Partner to curate, produce and deliver the event, from conceptual development, through thematic studies and venue design to the creation of multimedia/interactive displays. The CnC also collaborates on a series of public talks and educational workshops designed with the aim to offer new perspectives on the cultural significance and values embedded in the historical figure of Kwan Kung.
