The “Living with Bamboo” Education Exhibition and Workshop hosted by Design and Cultural Studies Workshop and supported by Hong Kong Museum of Art revisited one of our local schools. In collaboration with A.D. & F.D. of Pok Oi Hospital Mrs. Cheng Yam On Millennium School, we encouraged more students to learn Chinese culture in a lighthearted and interactive manner, while gaining insights into the inner qualities and values of “bamboo”.

With a duration of one month, the education event showcased the values that bamboo manifests in different perspectives of traditional Chinese culture. Making use of tangible bamboo wares and interactive devices, we enhanced students’ passion for learning and deepened teachers and students’ understanding in “bamboo”. The education team held four consecutive workshops which comprised of multiple means of interaction, including games, animations, videos and hands-on experiences. Students were guided to study the properties and inner qualities that “bamboo” shows in daily life and the world of art. They were inspired to pay closer attention to their surroundings where they can make explorations, discoveries and get their creative juices flowing, while experiencing the close association between bamboo and Chinese culture.
