Introduction:
Invited by Goethe Institute, Design and Cultural Studies Workshop and IS Reading Publishing Team conducted a collaborative publication project on urban investigation in Beijing. Experts, tutors and students from various institutes joined the project shared their views in seminars and exhibition. In this project, urban Beijing, which changed rapidly, was divided longitudinally into 3 even blocks: the West, the East and the Central. 18 districts were then selected for investigation, so as to find out the internal logic of the spatial evolution in these districts and the unique glamour of urban Beijing.
