The Forbidden City—the palace of the Ming and Qing dynasties is the world's most well preserved and largest imperial palace buildings and museum. Between 2003 and 2005, Chiu visited the public areas of the Palace Museum as a visitor alone for field trips and analysis, and in 2005, he published the research results in his book The Grand Forbidden City: The Imperial Axis. In the same year, he received Best Publishing Concept—Distinguished Publishing Concept from the 18th Hong Kong Print Awards. The publication of the book attracted widespread interest in the Forbidden City and the Palace Museum from readers and the media in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
