The Qing court attached great importance to an emperor’s birthday celebrations since it was believed that the emperor’s longevity was a testimony of his great virtues and effective rule over the nation. On display are 210 sets of precious exhibits associated with the grand birthday celebrations of Emperor Kangxi, Emperor Qianlong, Empress Dowager Chongqing (mother of Qianlong), Emperor Jiaqing and Empress Dowager Cixi selected from the collection of The Palace Museum in Beijing, introducing the ritual system that was part and parcel of the birthday celebrations of the Qing emperors and empress dowagers, as well as the rich culture of Chinese birthday celebrations in ancient times. The CnC is honoured to have contributed to the design of the multimedia presentations and the introductory leaflet of the exhibition.
