An education resource kit, developed as part of the collaboration project to complement How Memory Sticks, was launched with two introductory sessions for primary and secondary schools on 26th April and got off to a flying start thanks to all the teachers who were present to lend their support. The kit is designed to provide support to teachers and facilitate teaching and learning activities of ‘Objects’, the theme featured in Phase I of How Memory Sticks. Exploring the cultural, historical and artistic values of traditional objects alongside modern-day items, it takes a multidisciplinary approach that integrates the appreciation of traditional Chinese arts and culture with a range of school curriculum subjects, including visual arts, Chinese language, general studies, history and library studies. Ma Kin-chung, CnC education director, began the introductory sessions with a brief summary of our past and present projects. Then he outlined the objectives and the structure of How Memory Sticks and detailed the teaching focus of each lesson together with its instruction methods. Besides a Q&A session, teachers also tried their hand at the augmented reality components and experienced for themselves how multimedia and digital technologies are leveraged to promote learning of traditional Chinese arts and culture. The resource kits were dispatched to participating teachers at the sessions and its online edition (including a teacher’s manual, PowerPoint and other multimedia resources) is now available for download. Teachers are encouraged to choose the components that best suit their curriculum needs and extra-curricular activities.
