“The Hong Kong Jockey Club Series: The Forbidden City and the World—Cultural Encounters” thematic exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Palace Museum, and solely sponsored by The Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
Positioned within a global context, the exhibition presents the Forbidden City as a vital platform for dialogue between China, other parts of Asia, and Europe. Spanning more than 600 years of history, the Yuan (1271–1368), Ming (1368–1644), and Qing (1644–1911) dynasties, the exhibition weaves a rich tapestry of interactions in diplomacy, trade, science and technology, philosophy, and craftsmanship, inviting visitors to appreciate the rich cultural legacy embodied by the Forbidden City.
In this exhibition, Design and Cultural Studies Workshop participated in the production of a large-scale opening video, illustrating how the Forbidden City was shaped by its encounters with the world through animation.

“Design for the Forbidden City: Imperial Workshops of the Qing Court” thematic exhibition is jointly organised by the Hong Kong Palace Museum and the Palace Museum.
Bringing together over 150 spectacular objects from The Palace Museum, this is the first major exhibition to explore the history, organisational structure, use of materials, and production processes—as well as the artistic ingenuity and achievements—of the Imperial Workshops. By inviting Hong Kong designers and other creative talents to participate in the exhibition design, the exhibition presents court aesthetics from a fresh perspective and opens up a dialogue between Qing and contemporary life and design.
In this exhibition, Design and Cultural Studies Workshop provided part of the exhibition’s infographic design to showcase the historical development, the organization structure and the manufacturing process of the Imperial Workshops.
