Designing Forbidden-City themed mural on Nanjing Road, Shanghai

The CnC was commissioned by the Forbidden City Publishing House to design a large-scale Forbidden-City themed mural based on the topic “Forbidden City Culture Travels to Jiangnan”. The mural is 150-metre long with an area of around 1,000 square metres. Miraculously blending modern urban views with ancient Forbidden City sceneries, the mural was presented in Nanjing Road, a famous walking street in Shanghai and served as a chic spot for tourists and locals. The entire painting was drawn from classic collections of the Palace Museum, including the Comprehensive Illustrated Record of the Grand Wedding of Emperor Guangxu, the Painting Scrolls Illustrating the Sixtieth Birthday Celebration of Empress Dowager Chongqing, and the Painting Scrolls Illustrating the Stories of Virtuous Empresses of Various Dynasties. Centuries of history and cultural stories were infused into the awe-inspiring painting.
